I have always assumed Spanish people were passionate and blood was near the skin surface However Caesar and Rico were born into a home of aristocracy Their parents were like mannequins and cold Intellectuals but unfeeling No wonder when they found love with their wives it was like jumping off a cliff If you want Caesar s love story then you will find it in The consequence he must claim ,Which I am so happy we get a continuation of the baby swap that happened with another couple from the book The marriage He must keep. When Rico met Poppy, she was a shy feisty red head blooming with a huge crush on her employer s handsome son Rico s engagement was already broken so giving in to their intense passion was easy After their time together everything happened so fast The engagement was back on and by the time poppy recognised she was pregnant Rico got married The Marriage was doomed much to Rico s chagrined He wanted it to work but only when his wife died he got revelations that made his indifference hardened and stronger Thanks to his sister in law, Sorcha , Rico found out he had a daughter, lily I wonder if it just that poppy name her daughter after a flower like herself or was it the name of the flowers found where they had their first passionate encounter Without A DNA confirmation he whisks Poppy back to Spain.married to him I loved reading their insecurities of being back together They both were celibate from their last encounter and their initiation to rediscovering their passions Poppy and Sorcha developed a friendship and have confidence to a homesick Poppy to tolerate her in laws I loved seeing a transformed Poppy I liked the fact she gained confidence but she didn t change herself It took a life threatening situation for Rico to confess his love but it was worth their time together Liked Gran also DC to be proven to be a great author I hope we get Pia s story Casear and Rico s sister hopefully Poppy will eventually meet her new sister in law Please please read this one Not a great start to the month Over the past year or so, I ve come to rely on these quick Harlequin romances quite a bit I keep finding myself in these strange little reading funks and for whatever reason, a short burst of slightly domineering foreign men and the women who teach them that it s okay to fall in love, get me out of those said funks.I usually know what to expect from them but that s okay, they still never fail me Even when they aren t my most favorite, they still do the trick It s a weird thing but I ve quit questioning it The Maid s Spanish Secret came to me at a perfect time, for me, and it mostly delivered what I needed.Poppy had a one night stand while working in Spain She ended up pregnant but didn t find out until the father, Rico, was already married to another and Poppy was back home in Canada It s nearly two years past before Rico now widowed finds out about his child I meanwho doesn t love a secret baby All the usual ensues Man comes to claim his family Man s parents friends don t think new wife measures up New wife struggles to fit in and find happiness Etc, etc Everything I wanted. With one exception The climax was really lackluster for me I needed drama I felt like I was on the kiddie roller coaster instead of the grown up one with the giant hill that always makes your heart drop. I coukd not get into this book, having abandoned it a few times to read something else I am not saying that it s bad, because it s not I just didn t like the hero, Rico I did read Untouched until her ultra rich husband before I read this book, and this didn t enchant me as Untouched did. There are some good aspects to it I really enjoyed revisiting Cesar and Sorcha, the hero s brother and sister in law There were somee really great family dynamic but the romance was lacking for me. It was nice and made my eyes watered a little. Alpha maleness 1 5Character arcs 1.5 5The hero wasn t a complete doormat, but he was kind, reasonable, a tad bit wishy washy and had light flickers of possessiveness for the heroine The motivations for the hero and heroine weren t very strong in my opinion I didn t any kind of sense of what their goals were, not even to have healthy marriage or family The hero just suddenly wanted another kid The baby they already had forgotten Plot 1.5 5Pacing 1.5 2Simple one night stand, secret baby, second chance, and marriage of convenience plot It was all awful rushed in my opinion only highlighting big moments Again, one of my pet peeves lately with theses books with babies is that they just hand the baby off to the nanny Ugh I know these HP are fairytales concerning romance but I would love to see for themes of centered around creating a happy and stable family relationship The stuff concerning the hero s place in the company and the plot concerning his dead wife was a bit unclear to me Romance 2 5Sexy times 2.5 5Angst 2 5There was some angst of the heroine felt used by the hero after he went back to his cheating fiancee There was some sexy moments I thought was done well not ver HP like in my opinion because they were so nice Not sure how else to describe them, but no elements of resistance just a lot of want The hero was a standup guy Both were celibate during the two years they were separated.
